Mission:
To foster ecologically balanced methods of construction and energy production in order to promote more sustainable and healthy communities.

The Fourth Pig Worker Co-op (a non-profit organization) fulfills contracts in sustainable building design, education and construction, natural building materials design and installation, and renewable energy installation. Fourth Pig provides consultation and training for clients in the green building and alternative energy sectors.

Our sustainable shelter model has many features, including:

  1. Renewable energy

  2. Natural, non-toxic and health focused materials and design

  3. Energy conservation measures

  4. Life-cycle management of building materials

  5. Solar design for efficient heating, cooling and lighting

  6. Local materials sourcing

  7. Education and training

Sustainable building means a cleaner environment, more efficient energy generation and use, more effective use of building materials, less toxic living spaces. Fourth Pig's construction and education work ensures  broader participation by community members and expanded knowledge of the issues of sustainable shelter.

What’s in a name?
Our name is a play on the tale of the Three Little Pigs.  We say the fourth pig is the wise one who built the house out of strawbales, installed solar panels on the roof and used the breath of the wolf to turn a turnbine.
